Jam Up! has been developed using a co-production approach involving autistic children and their parent/carers and key stakeholders from health, social care and education sectors. The content has been created by various healthcare professionals including physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, educational psychologists, occupational therapists and SEND Specialist Teachers.
Has any user testing taken place?
Jam Up! has been pilot tested across Essex with 31 autistic children and their parent carers. In addition, user testing feedback has been obtained from four focus groups, two in depth interviews and over 100 responses to our online surveys. Currently we are running a trial with 50 families referred to us from the National Autistic Society.
Has any user feedback enabled any features to be added to Jam Up!?
Yes. Feedback from people with sensory impairment led to increase font size, improved colour contrast between text and background and visual and audio descriptors to be added to Jam Up! A screen reader to support ordering clothing items in the dressing task has also been added to aid individuals with visual impairment.
Is Jam Up! endorsed by a relevant body?
Yes. Jam Up! has exceeded ORCHA Baseline review standards. Jam Up! is currently working towards DTAC Medical Device certification and a Kitemark from the National Autistic Society
Are organisations endorsing or using Jam UP?
Yes. Jam Up! is endorsed by Parent Carer Cornwall and the Anna Kennedy Charity.
What risks are associated with using Jam Up!?
Jam Up has undergone a clinical risk assessment associated with DCB0129 clinical safety standards. The Clinical Safety Officer has documented all related hazards and risk scores in the documentation, this is a continuous process. However, there are no high scoring hazards identified. Is Jam Up! compliant with any recognised app design standards?
Jam Up! is currently working towards Digital Technology Assessment Criteria for health and social care (DTAC). DTAC is the national baseline criteria for digital health technologies entering and already used in the NHS and social care.
Is Jam up! evidence based?
Jam Up! has been developed by healthcare professionals using a broad range of peer reviewed literature. References can be viewed on the Professionals tab on our website.
Can children use Jam Up! independently?
Parents and carers are responsible for determining whether their child is able to use the Jam Up! app independently. We strongly recommend that parents or carers supervise their child’s use of the app to ensure safe and appropriate engagement.
